Job Description

The Linux Vulnerability Engineer will focus on CVE remediation, bug fixes, and minor enhancements for Rocky Linux 8/9 and CentOS 7 userspace packages. The role involves researching CVEs, identifying relevant patches, and backporting these patches to older versions where applicable. The Engineer will assess risks in patching and make decisions on rolling forward when necessary. This role suits junior to mid-level engineers with CVE remediation experience and Linux package maintenance expertise. Additional opportunities for engineers with senior-level experience in package maintenance and vulnerability remediation.

The position is fully remote, with occasional onsite training and meetings required.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Research and apply security patches for Linux userspace CVEs, ensuring minimal risk of regressions or new vulnerabilities.
  • Backport patches for userspace packages and assess when rolling forward is a better solution.
  • Debug and test patched packages for functionality and stability.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers for complex patching issues.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum 2 years in Linux userspace package maintenance, with focus on CVE remediation and bug fixing.
  • Programming Skills: Proficiency in CBashPython, and a strong understanding of Linux internals.
  • CVE Remediation: Experience identifying and applying patches to userspace packages.
  • Debugging: Strong debugging skills to troubleshoot and fix unfamiliar RPMs.
  • Version Control: Proficiency in Git.
  • Package Building: Experience with Linux build tools (e.g., Koji, OBS, Peridot).
  • Familiarity with hardware platforms, especially x86 and ARM.
  • Experience with Linux and RPM development tools and testing frameworks.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
